Many people often ask me, “When should I start my child in organized sports?” The best answer is not until eight years old. It is not until kids reach about eight that they can understand things like winning and losing, and the complexities of the rules of a game. ‘Having fun’ is the main reason a child should play a sport until they reach high school; then the main purpose can shift toward ‘winning.’ Listen to this podcast and hear more about youth sports, what to do if your child cries on the field, what to do if they are enjoying playing before age eight, and more! This podcast sends an important message to our culture – a culture that believes (erroneously) that early structure is better for children in all areas.

Dr. Satterwhite, or “Dr. Bill” as he is fondly called by many of his little patients, is a kind and compassionate lawyer-turned-pediatrician who listens to patient and family concerns and explains complex topics in clear, easy-to-understand ways. His skills are so sought after that some patients drive up to an hour to see him. He is kept humble, however, by his wife of 25 years who regularly reminds him that she would “never drive that far to go to a doctor, no matter who he is.”
